In 1998 scientists working for the government in cancer research created a new type of bacteria. This bacteria was engineered to find the cancer cells in a host and destroy them. However, a meltdown in one of the labs caused the bacteria to mutate. It grew to a massive size and started to attack the town the lab was situated in. Nick Tatopolous and his H.E.A.T. team raced to the scene and Zilla attacked Bacillus. Zilla was seriously injured and rendered catatonic as the result of being injected with a highly dangerous form of mutated bacteria by Bacillus.
In order to save their kaiju ally, H.E.A.T. traveled within Zilla's body in order to carefully exterminate all of the mutant bacterium. Now fully healed, Zilla attacked Bacillus anew, and eradicated the creature with his incendiary breath.
A few months afterwards the Scientists cleaning up the area found traces of Bacillus bacteria. The Bacteria is kept in a secret but secure area until the government can find a way to deal with it.
